A vintage editorial love affair... the 90s!
I’m a little bit OCD when it comes to researching shoots, in what I like to tell myself is a good way. I can happily while away hours pouring over books, old magazines, videos, photos, looking for makeup inspiration, and inspiration for shoot ideas in general. And now thanks to Google images, reams of street fashion, historical references, advertising, photography, couture, illustration,...

SS12 Beauty Trends - Colour block lips!
This one, is not a trend for the faint hearted by any means, however if you’re a saucy little minx who’s not afraid to have a bit of fun with their makeup, then you’re time has well and truly come! From Meadham Kirchoff to Mary Katrantzou, lips that packed a serious punch were popping up across various shows for this season, from neons, to aquas, to sickly sweet pinks, lips were...

My wandering mind... Too much too young?
Now, before you slap my wrists for this post, yes I know this is a makeup related blog, but I like to keep it’s entries based loosely around that theme on a variety of different subjects, so I believe this post has a place here… It does refer to a beautiful piece of editorial after all, and as a makeup artist I’m drawn to many shoots, past and present.
A piece that drew me in...

Bronzing beauties I never knew existed!
The other day I was presented with a big, sexy package of products from the lovely peeps at St Tropez, and I must admit (while it seems screamingly obvious to me now) before I got chance to play wth these babies, I’d never thought of St Tropez as something that could be a valuable part of my kit. Ohhh what a fool I’ve been!
I’m not talking the self-tanning side of things...

Makeup Artists, Hall of Fame!
I’m really relishing the thought of getting the chance to spill the beans about some of my favourite makeup artists over time, maybe introduce you to the work of some you’ve not seen before, and for purely selfish reasons, to get the time to look back over their work and find inspiration all over again! The temptation is to talk about the more obscure artists, or certainly those that...

Secret Treasures From Deep Inside The Kit...
I remember back in my assisting days, one artist I worked with had the most sumptuous, luxurious body lotion, that I spent many a shoot slathering onto various celebrity and model limbs. It smelled amazing, and was beautfully rich without being greasy. She kept it in a little unlabelled bottle and whenever I asked her what it was, she told me it was a special mix of products that was her top...

Wonders of the Web Part 1 - Pixiwoo!
For some avid YouTube fans this will be a “DUH” post, but I literally don’t know where to begin telling you about how much I adore these girls and what they do. These days there are a nauseating amount of tutorial websites and product related blogs out there, a lot of which are run by makeup enthusiasts, as opposed to makeup artists. I suppose at one end of the spectrum the...

Sports Dominatrix - Spashion.com
Just spotted this recent bit of editorial I shot with the fantastic Rick Guest, for Spashion.com. Spashion is an online magazine that exists in the grey area where sport meets fashion, sounds confusing to begin with but check it out, it works fantastically.
Super-stylist Cynthia Laurence John brought along some of the most covetable couture sports and latex gear I’ve seen in a long time....

"Outsiders" - Vogue Paris Beauty.
I love, love, LOVE this mini beauty story in April’s issue of Vogue Paris, Karim Sadli worked with four of the industry’s top hair and makeup artists, each shooting a look of their choosing on the wonderful Malgosia Bela. On the makeup side of things we have the incredible Lucia Pica and Yadim. Love it. And how dreamy do they all look in the group shot?!
First up one of my all...

SS12 Beauty Trend - Cat Eye Liner.
Looking back through the makeup trends for this coming season, I couldn’t help but notice an INSANE amount of graphic liner making it’s way down the runways, at Jonathan Saunders, D&G, Ruffian, and even stepping away from the black and going for a swoosh of colour instead at Philip Lim and Anna Sui. This is great news for me as the thick liner flick is pretty much my signature...

Alternative Beauty Icons, Hall of Fame!
One thing I’m really looking forward to posting about as time goes on, is the beauty icons that have affected me over the years, be that in my work, or my own personal style, and attempting to breakdown exactly what it is that makes them so inspirational in my eyes. Hopefully along the way it may introduce you to some beauties you’ve never encountered before, or an aesthetic that may...

I Wanna Rant With Somebody...
One of the main things I want to try and do in this blog, apart from have a bit of fun of course, and share the things I love, is to be honest. Honest about the life I lead as a makeup artist in this city, my thoughts and feelings on the things I share, and not to sugar coat my words on their journey from brain to keyboard… So far so good I think.
I have many friends in this industry, many...
